TLDR: Pros - This is a great kit that includes everything required to store filament and to keep it safe from high humidity. Cons - the pump works fine but could be improved. Overall: I recommend.
For most of the year where I live humidity is not much of an issue. However, most of the summer is very humid. I mostly print with PLA and have read about its tendency to absorb moisture. Given that this kit included everything needed to store my filaments dry for just under $30, I considered it cheap insurance against potential print quality issues.
The kit arrived quickly and is packaged very efficiently. Inside my kit were twenty zip style plastic bags with a one-way valve in one corner. It also included twenty silica pouches, humidity indicator cards, one pump and five bag clips to help with closing the seal on the bags.
The clear platic bags are specially grooved on the inside to ensure that the pump is able to evacuate as much air as possible. Their quality is very good. Each one has a space printed on it for a label that allows you to indicate the date and to note anything that may not visible on the spool iteself.
The humidity cards are simple paper with indicators to change from blue to red should the humidity inside the bag reach varying percentages. They are easy to read and easy to use.
The silica packs are of your typical variety but are a decent size, larger than what you get with some filament rolls from the manufacturer.
Everything in the kit is reusable, which is nice. Of course, over time the silica packs will saturate and if your humidity cards ever get wet enough to trigger, they will have to be replaced.
The pump works well enough. It is battery powered and rechargeable via USB-C which makes it very convenient to use. A charge will last for six to eight vacuum runs. I would like to see a slightly softer rubber used for the cup that attaches to the bags. I found this rubber to be a little stiff which makes achieving a proper seal a small challenge. Thankfully with the one-way valve if the seal breaks you do not lose your progress. I found the best way to vacuum out these bags was to flatten the valve out on a flat surface and to press the pump firmly down onto the valve. With the internal channels integrated into the bag, air can be pumped out even when you press down firmly with the pump.
So far, I have used about six of these bags and have re-sealed them about twenty times. Now that I have figured out the pump, I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this kit to anyone who lives in a humid region. Or as in my case experiences humidity for one or more seasons each year.
